Do we really need to integrate blockchain and adopt NFTs to gain popularity in terms of video games? For the Mojang studio, its famous Minecraft game can survive very well without giving in to non-fungible tokens and the innovative blockchain system. And here is why.

NFTs create a situation of inequality in games

The position of the Mojang studio is decisive, there is no question of integrating non-fungible tokens into the Minecraft game. For the creators of one of the world’s most famous video games, NFTs are too exclusive for the community. This idea of separating fans into two categories – “those who have” and “those who don’t”, displeases Mojang. For the studio, there is no question of creating a situation of inequality in its games. Moreover, recent events around non-fungible tokens prove the instability of the system and make it less reliable in the future.

“To ensure Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated into our Minecraft client and server applications and may not be used to create NFTs associated with any in-game content. , including worlds, skins, personal items or other mods […] NFTs are not inclusive for our community, and create scenarios of those who have and those who do not have [. ..] We are also concerned about unreliable sellers of NFTs. There have been cases of NFTs being sold at artificially inflated prices.”

What are NFTs in games?

An NFT (non-fungible token) is a digital file attached to a digital certificate. Its main advantage is to make a computer file unique, whatever its form and type (video, gif, image). NFT games are games based on blockchain technology. We mainly talk about Play to Earn (P2E), because all the winnings made in these games are also available in the form of NFT. Thanks to the rarity of these items, players can get rich quickly by reselling them at high prices.

In practice, winnings in NFT games can be cash or an associated cryptocurrency. Depending on the popularity of this virtual currency and its current price in the cryptocurrency market, players can achieve extremely high payouts. Note that in an NFT game, players can buy all kinds of items:

  • A virtual field
  • A hero
  • A fart
  • A piece of equipment, etc

NFT Play To Earn games to test in 2022

The best gaming projects are those that offer multiple opportunities to make huge gains through NFTs and incidentally to collect rare and genuine tokens of inestimable value. But, everything also depends on the objectives set by the players. Therefore, this list is only indicative.

Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity is one of the first video games to have integrated the blockchain system. Launched in March 2018, the game is hugely popular as an NFT P2E game in September 2020, with over 2.7 million monthly active players. These days, it is one of the most addictive games on the network, with a total transaction volume of $3.94 billion. The three digital assets developed in the Axie environment are:

  • The Smooth Love Potion (SLP): the token that allows you to raise Axies.
  • Axies NFTs: Prices can range from $60 to $300.
  • Axie Infinity (AXS): The game’s native governance token, also known as the Axie Infinity Shard.

Axie Infinity also allows players to purchase NFT land to develop their own businesses. In practice, the daily earnings of players is around $400 in this game.

Gods Unchained

Inspired by the game “Magic: The Gathering”, Gods Unchained is a collectible card game (TCG). It’s also the first blockchain game to be released on Immutable X, the platform created by Robbie Ferguson, one of the brothers who created a triple-A card-collecting and battling experience similar to Blizzard’s Hearthstone.

Gods Unchained cards are classified into four levels of quality:

  • Diamond
  • Gold
  • Meteorite
  • Shadow

These days, the game has 17 million cards traded and generates revenues reached about $6.46 billion. Aside from cards, players can also earn GODS, the game’s native token by winning tournaments. GODS can then be used to buy chests or card packs. They can also be staked to generate higher returns.

Mines of Dalarnia

Mines of Dalarnia is a game developed by Workinman Interactive and Chromia Studios, two blockchain experts. Launched in November 2021, it is also the first 2D blockchain that has levels generated according to precise procedures. Miners are fully player controlled and each mine collects unique resources like rare artifacts and relics. The game’s main token, the DAR, also allows players to buy land. Rented or traded for rewards in DAR, these NFT lands allow for significant in-game gains. With the addition of the NFT Mining Apes collection in the Dalaria metaverse, players’ chances of receiving DAR tokens have doubled. Additionally, the game is still in development. Other functionalities are planned during this year, to satisfy the requirements of the players.

  • A planetary scenario.
  • Other types of gameplay.
  • An in-game chat
  • Social features.
  • Side quests for DAR rewards.
  • Derivatives based on NFTs.
